    Provides collaborative leadership and clinical expertise to ensure delivery of an evidence-based standard of care for a given patient population that achieve optimal outcomes. Evaluates and follows patients to assure that care is coordinated across the care continuum and delivered in the most appropriate site for patients to achieve their healthcare goals. Engages patients to ensure understanding of their diagnosis, treatment options and resources available. Coordinates the patient plan of care with the multidisciplinary team, and communicates it across all care settings, Enters patient care orders as appropriate consulting with the patient's provider as needed. Acts as a clinical resource and change agent for best practices for specific patient groups, provides staff mentoring and educational sessions as needed and is involved in developing and integrating patient care protocols. Participates in and coordinates patient rounds and care conferences as needed for patients, families and providers. Demonstrates fiscal responsibility in the care they deliver and practices they promote; identifies opportunities for reducing the cost of care. Works effectively with a variety of disciplines and agencies. Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or higher in Nursing with a National Certification as a Nurse Practitioner required.
  • Licensed by the Idaho Board of Nursing as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.
  • Minimum of 3 years as a registered nurse required.
  • 2 years' experience in area of specialty as a Nurse Practitioner preferred.
  • Must complete KH BLS during orientation period.
  • Desired qualifications:

    · Experience in Neurosurgical care including evaluation in the ED, admitting and writing orders

    · Able to develop treatment and care plans

    · Able to give clear patient instructions

    · Strong attention to detail

    · Self-motivated

    · Able to give impromptu nursing education

    · Able to develop neurosurgical nursing education in-services

    · Able to use quality metrics to improve all hospital neurosurgical care

    · Strong communication skills and able to interact with multiple specialties and care levels

    Essential Job Functions (Physical Requirements):

    • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function.
    • On feet a minimum of 8-12 hours, depending on length of shift.
    • Read charts, dials, equipment settings, literature and other printed and handwritten materials.
    • Communicate with patients, physicians, families and co-workers in person and on telephone.
    • Work with equipment and manipulate equipment settings, computer keyboard, etc.

    Work Environment:

    · Kootenai Health operates 24 hours per day each day of the year; operational needs of departments may require that you be available to work all shifts, weekends and holidays to meet the needs of the patients.

    · Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment.
